Beetles in Ohio

Ohio has several beetle species thriving here, most of which belong to the ground beetle family.  The state even has many ladybird beetle species, well distributed over all its 88 counties. Some like the Mexican bean beetle and squash beetle present here feed on beans, squash, and pumpkin plants. The carpet beetle species are also found here, mostly in wool and fabrics. The Japanese beetle, another major pest, is mostly in season between June and July.

The eastern hercules beetle, the largest in the state, is mainly found in southern Ohio but not commonly seen.
