Virginia has a few recorded beetle species thriving there, of which the eastern hercules beetle of the rhinoceros beetle subfamily is the largest. The Japanese beetle, known to dwell here since the 1970s, is found throughout the state known to be a significant pest here. Other beetles worth mentioning include the red milkweed beetle infesting milkweed and dogbane plants, the huge emerald ash borer beetle, and so on.
