The Asian longhorned beetle, or the Asian long horn beetle, is native to East Asia spreading to Europe and North America via wood packaging material.

Physical Description and Identification

Adult

Size:1.7 – 3.9 cm

Color:These beetles have shiny black elytra with 20 white spots and long black-and-white antennae.

Other Characteristic Features:The upper parts of the legs are whitish-blue.

Larva

They are 5cm long and 0.54 cm wide and are cylindrical and elongated. Larvae go through at least 5 instars in this stage but may go through even more as they only begin pupation after reaching a certain weight.

Pupation takes place incol3 a wood chamber hollowed out by mature larvae. This generally occurs in spring.
